Dilmano Dilbero
Dilmano Dilbero is a well-known Bulgarian folk song from the Shoppe region in northwest Bulgaria. The arrangement we learn here is from the famous Bulgarian composer Philip Koutev, but traditionally this song would be sung village style in two parts with a melody and drone.
The song is a flirtatious harvest / planting song, in which a young person is out flirting in the with Dilmana while she's planting peppers. They are saying to Dilmana, 'Beautiful Dilmana, how is it that you plant a pepper so that it flowers and fruits and you can harvest and eat as much as you like?' and Dilmana answers while sensually poking a seed into the soil, 'You poke it into the ground and plant it there, then it flowers and grows and fruits and you can pick and eat as much as you like.'
Here is Le mystere des voix Bulgares singing a different arrangement of Dilmano Dilbero. Observe their mouth shapes, facial expressions, vocal tone, posture, vowel sounds, consonant sounds, and how they blend their voices.
Dilmano, dilbero, Dilmano, dilbero
kaži mi kak se sadi pipero, kaži mi kak se sadi pipero
Da tsafti da varzhe, da tsafti da varzhe
da beresh(x3) kak sakash, da beresh(x3) kak sakash
da beresh(x3) kak sakash, da beresh(x3) kak sakash
Pomoniga, pobotsniga, pomoniga, pobotsniga
Teta kak se sadi sadi pipero, Teta kak se sadi sadi pipero
Da tsafti da varzhe, da tsafti da varzhe
da beresh(x3) kak sakash, da beresh kak sakash
da beresh(x3) kak sakash, da beresh kak sakash
Dilmana, beautiful one,
Tell me how to plant pepper
So it blossoms and gives fruits
And you can pick, pick, pick as much as you want
Poke the ground, plant it there
That's how it plants pepper
So it blossoms and gives fruits
And you can pick, pick, pick as much as you want
